Aside from public safety, I believe the foremost responsibility of the Kansas Legislature is to fund education and ensure that our children receive a quality education. I also believe that our approach must be child-focused, not system-focused, with the core mission being the best education for our children in a cost-effective and efficient manner which allocates public education dollars wisely, with the priority being spending on the actual classrooms.
I believe the proper role of government is to protect public safety, provide important public services, such as education, in an efficient and cost-effective manner while still meeting the expectations of the public and under the Constitution of the State of Kansas. We must limit the interference of state government in our everyday lives, eliminating unnecessary laws and regulations which burden families and business and constitute an undue burden on individual liberty.
I believe it is an important role of the state government to create sound fiscal and economic policies which create an environment which allows the entrepreneurial spirit to take hold. With low and fair tax rates and light, sensible regulations, small business can flourish and families can keep more of their hard earned income.
Kansans expect a state government which will uphold our values and basic human rights, such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. While economic and education policies often grab the headlines, we must always strive to create an environment where life is protected, religious liberty is respected, and communities thrive. I am proud of my 100% pro-life voting record and my efforts to uphold the First Amendment rights of Kansans.
